Salesman of the Year!

Oh my! It's been a while. Long time, no bloggy!

I've been so busy dominating TAKS coordination. Duh!!!

Seriously with everything that's been crazy at work, we decided to go ahead and have our popcorn ceilings removed. Oh boy! Was that a fun treat! We had a plastic bag covered play house. The house was a complete disaster. I spent 3 hours cleaning tonight while Randy was partying it up at the Astros' home opener. I'd rather be cleaning, but still I want to complain about it.

I will be spending all day Saturday mopping (again, for the third time), vacuuming, and hauling things back to their designated spots. It looks like the powder monster is still winning the battle as their is a thick film everywhere.

Thank you Uncle Sam for funding the popcorn removal and mini blind repairs. The next project is the loft. We want to turn it into a media center. But we need a new couch to make this all happen.

YAY!!! Furniture shopping!!! YAH!!!! I love furniture shopping!

Furniture shopping with Randy...not so much YAH-ing anymore.

He always puts his frugal pants on when we go to make big purchases. And our salesman didn't exactly help us out.

We found the perfect couch for the living room. It's a leather dual reclining sofa. Ohh la la. This is me NOT bragging, because in order to brag you must have or own the item. We left empty handed.

Why might you ask?

Well apparently our sales guy flunked the "how to sell couches" seminar.

Randy: So do these couches ever go on sale?

oh geez...we are so close to buying this bad boy. In fact, we left the house with a cheerful, "Let's do this!" We went to go buy it not haggle. We already shopped around, sat in a gazillion couches, and even measured with a tape measure. Guess who was nerdy enough to bring a tape measure?

Sales guy: Occasionally

Randy: What does occasionally mean?

Sales guy: Well you see when I first started working here, we would have a big sale one time a year. But now with the economy the way it is, we usually have 3-5 sales.

Randy (only hearing the number 5): So when will the next sale be?

Sales guy: (chuckles) They don't tell us that sir because that would dissuade people from buying.

(Alright so he must have passed one or two tests in his sofa selling training... He's starting to grow on me, but then he pulled this number...)

Sales guy: Here's what I can do.

(Oh boy, he's going to cut us a deal. I'm thinking, "wow, my husband rocks at negotiating.")

Sales guy: I'll add your name to my list of customers to email when we have a sale.

WHAT??????????

What sales person ever uses that line? Don't they want an immediate sale? We were about to fold. And then he pulled that number with the whole emailing business. Do you think Randy hesitated in jumping all over that?

Randy: "Well that sounds great."

Of course it does.

Back to the car with the goober behind us probably selling our email address to every third party he can think of.

Email? Really?

He put our name on a scrap of paper. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was probably completely unofficial.

2 lessons learned...
1)Don't go furniture shopping 15 minutes prior to closing regardless of what your husband says as he assumes "they'll cut a deal when it's closer to closing time." They're only interested in email addresses at 8:45pm and not selling things.

Way to go sales man! I bet you haven't seen the top of the white board in the break room that's labeled, "top sales people."

2)There's always an opportunity to learn something new about engineering.

Randy was more interested in taking pictures of this drainage system set-up.

I was complaining about the whole email nonsense, when he throws the car in park, jumps out, and says "I'll be right back."

Alright! Way to run in and claim that couch Randy! I just knew that couch belonged in our house!

Wrong!!! He bends down to take pictures and measure something in the concrete.

Geez...
I think I hate furniture shopping now.

Globes?

Randy's sweet, sweet Granny is moving and selling her home. I'm not going to express my selfish feelings of gloom and sadness, but just so you know I love, love, love that house. But we're moving on, so I don't cry. Did I mention I love that house?

Anyways, it's been an ongoing project to distribute her things/belongings that she can't take with her when she moves.

I scored a quilt and a really cool Pottery Barn inspired lamp!

Randy asked for some of Grandpa's tools and various lawn things. He also asked for some other interesting things. One of his favorite items is this...

Do they still make globes?

And where exactly do you put that?

And how do you say "No you can't have one of your Granny's items?"

And who wants a globe?

Randy is fascinated with globes. Apparently, he has been since he was little.

I was fascinated with globes when I was little as well because I could play the "where will I live" game. You know, you spin the globe and skim your finger against it as it twirls and twirls. Where will it stop no one knows, but the stopping point would be your future address as an adult.

I'm so thankful I'm not living in the Atlantic Ocean. The whole ocean and land ratio was not in my favor. I always ended up landing in the water. Shark bait! Shark bait! Shark bait!

Our "new" globe is a little out of date. I'm pretty sure Granny had that globe when her children were little. I could do the finger skimming game and possibly end up living in the ocean or the USSR.

I'm not sure how to address the location of this globe.

Side note: We are revamping some things in the house. One of the things is turning the loft into a media center. We are going to move the current living room couch upstairs and add an end table and tv. I'm way excited about this, and a funny furniture story will soon be posted, but for now back to the "global" crises.

R: "Penny, I was thinking we could get an end table and put the globe on it in the loft."

P: (insert laugh here)

R: "I don't know why that's funny. I was thinking either there or on my nightstand by the bed."

P: (insert bigger laugh here)

Anybody need a globe? That whole "where will I live game" is quite exciting!

Why We Are Friends...

I love my dear friend Jana. She cracks me up all the time. We hung out yesterday and had a blast. We took Mopac for a long walk and had frozen yogurt! Here is a glimpse into one of my many favorite conversations with her.

As we are driving past the Round Rock Fire Department...

J: "You want to know something? The Round Rock fire fighters are fine!"

P: "Aren't they?"

J: "Oh Penny, they came to school to give an assembly, and after it was over, I told the kids 'I'm going to pick up your pencils.' I started walking across the gym floor because this guy was fine. The kids start yelling across the floor, 'Ms. Walker, you can get our pencils from that firefighter.' Penny, they wanted their pencils from the old, married guy. I said 'I'll be right back' because I was walking all the way across the gym. And then they start again, 'Ms. Walker, look he has pencils too.' I had to turn around and scold them 'Boys and girls we are at an assembly. Please sit down and be quiet.' I walked up to the hot guy and sweetly smiled, '28 pencils please.' "

lol!!!! Oh Jana!

email encouragement

Randy and I sometimes send each other emails during the day. Brief snippets of information since it's hard to play phone tag when I'm in and out of my office so much.

Usually it's things like, "What time are you going to be home to let Mopac out?" or "What's for dinner?"

Well I sent him an email about me complaining about something, and he gave great encouragement. I'm not being facetious. I was complaining about something completely stupid, dramatic, and irrelevant. Here was his email reply back to me on Friday.

It had not one word. But with Randy, you usually get his point with pictures, expressions, looks...

One point Randy!

encouragement

I could use a big dose of encouragement right now. My New Year's goal was to constantly be seeking God, to somehow recognize His presence daily in my life. Most days I have no trouble with this, and some days I just cry trying to find Him.

I've been listening mainly to Christian radio, and I think it is very uplifting. Music speaks to me. Sometimes my prayers are just song lyrics. I love this one recently...

I don't ask for many personal prayers on my blog. I don't know it makes me feel kinda funny or embarrassed when there is so much suffering in this world. My blessings greatly outweigh my sufferings, and it feels silly to ask for prayers sometimes. But if you could shoot up an encouragement prayer for me, that would be rad!!!

"Walk By Faith" by Jeremy Camp

Would I believe you when you would say
Your hand will guide my every way
Will I receive the words You say
Every moment of every day

Well I will walk by faith
Even when I cannot see
Well because this broken road
Prepares Your will for me

Help me to win my endless fears
You've been so faithful for all my years

With one breath You make me new
Your grace covers all I do

Well I will walk by faith
Even when I cannot see
Well because this broken road
Prepares Your will for me

Well I'm broken- but I still see Your face
Well You've spoken- pouring Your words of grace

I love serving such an amazing God!
