Dear reader friends in the blogging world,
I am loving this blog, and I think it's important to recognize my progress in my original goals set back on New Year's Day.
And I have to say I'm rocking it on this self-expression thing.
Not to toot my own horn, but TOOT! TOOT! folks!
I'm on a roll! This is my ninth post! Toot! toot!
Sincerely,
A Modest Blogger

What do you do when you have a bad day?
Today was definitely one of those days. It was a day you could crawl into your car and just cry all the way home. But I didn't do that! I'm so proud of myself! I came home and bought something!!!!
Why cry? Just spend money.
(I think this will be my new life motto!)
So after my terrible, no good, very bad day, I did a little online shopping. Cooking and shopping.....ahhhh blissful!
Well....I went to my favorite online store,
http://www.uncommongoods.com
They have the coolest things! Check out the doormats for a sure fire laugh! Their catalog is sometimes the highlight of my week.
Guess what I bought?
go on! guess!
No! guess again?
Okay, okay, you're never going to guess....
Check out these bad boys!

Aren't these just a scream? They are Freudian slippers/house shoes. You get it right? It's making a reference to a Freudian slip! Ahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Please tell me I'm not the only one who finds these fabulous? Every former and current psychology major is grabbing their sides and joining me in the laughapalooza!!! Since my degree is in Psychology, these were a must! I have only heard a gazillion lectures on the id, ego, superego alone! This is my reward!
Freud is the founder of psychoanalytical therapy. His ideas are very ummm, how do i say this nicely? Bizarro! (especially his childhood theories on sexuality) If you don't have the slightest clue to what I'm talking about, we should meet at Starbucks. You won't believe me if I write anymore. We must discuss Freud's craziness over iced caramel macchiatos.
I can't wait for my new slippers to arrive and model them around the house. I just know Rands is going to love them:) I might even start lying on the couch and telling Randy all of my dreams!

Appetizing Art
Check it out!!!! Why do I want all 50 states?
The United Plates collection is very clever artwork done by a Kansas illustrator, John Holcomb. He basically turned the state's shape into food! Wouldn't these be adorable in a retro-ish kitchen, heck even my kitchen? Check out his website for all 50 designs, http://www.shorthandedstudio.com
These are some of my favorites!

Isn't the drumstick Kentucky the best? What do you think?

the art of conversation
this is a typical "randy/penny conversation" from last night's dinner
preface: Randy doesn't drink hot drinks. He constantly says, "How can you drink them without burning your tongue and lips off?" He has been wanting to start drinking a hot beverage in the morning since it's been Antarctica Austin. I even gave a lesson on how to drink hot tea (I turned to the side and demonstrated it, yes I really did....)
R: So I'm getting better at drinking hot drinks
P: (sarcasm) congratulations
R: no really, I'm serious. I don't burn my tongue and lips nearly as much.
P: Are you drinking it like a cat with your tongue?
R: No you got to tuck that away. Those sippy straws help too.

"Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you. "
The above quote was written by the greatest author to ever pick up a pen and write. Any guesses?
DR. SEUSS!!!!!!!
He is my hero. No doubt about it! Love him! He is a genius! Hands down!
If you know me pretty well, then you know that I am a Seuss fanatic. Just ask my sixth graders. They'll tell you it's a common fact. I asked them to write a quick poem about a main character in a book we were reading last week. They were all complaining because they couldn't think of rhyming words. I said, "Guys, your poems don't have to rhyme. Some of the great poets in the history of literature didn't have rhyming poems." And one of my little students said, "But Dr. Seuss' poems rhyme and you told us he's the greatest writer of all time." Ahh what can I say? I am building a generation of Dr. Seuss fans.
One of my many goals in life is to own every Dr. Seuss book. I have my work cut out for me being that I only own 13, and he wrote 40 something.
My mom is very aware of the fact that I want to have kids who love and adore his books and illustrations as much as I do. So when I went home this weekend, I had a huge surprise.

How amazing are these books AND stuffed animals!!!!!!!
Oh my goodness, I've planned out the whole nursery theme already centered around these golden educational toys. Granted, I don't have a nursery (not to mention a baby either), but if we ever do, I'll be prepared. In fact, when my mom was in line at Kohl's purchasing my little surprises, she was telling everyone in the nearest vicinity (and to those who were pretending to listen) how her daughter wants to have a Dr. Seuss nursery. "She's not pregnant, but I just can't pass these up." (If you know my mom, you know this is typical Mary behavior. She talks to EVERYONE like they are her best friend).
Now, we have a small dilemma. When I got back from Weimar last night, I laid out all of the fun books AND TOYS in our living room. Can you believe they have matching character toys? Still in shock. (I'm glad Kohl's cares and....will be getting different books and toys in the upcoming months). Back to the dilemma, Randy looked at them all and said, "Wow every little kid in the world would be scared of those."
WHAT?!?!?!?!!?!?
I replied very vehemently, "Only sissy kids would be scared." And we won't have sissy kids, so no need to worry! I mean come on..... IT'S A CAT! WHO WEARS A HAT!!!
Listen to that, "cat in the hat." The title alone brings so many educational opportunities. There are two nouns, a preposition, an article. I could even show him/her what a prepositional phrase looks like. See how "cat in the hat" rolls off the tongue. How can you be scared of a hat wearing cat? I just don't get it!
I then proceeded to get on my reading soap box. I gave him the whole sixth grader speech of the importance of reading. I'm convinced he just doesn't like Dr. Seuss because he didn't invent a math formula. See the real problem is we are very much the right brain, left brain couple. Our poor children, the moment they enter the world, I'm going to be shoving books in their hands and Randy will be holding up multiplication flash cards.
I can see it now....
"(Insert child's name here), don't you want to participate in the summer reading program at the library?"
Randy interrupting, "No (child's name here) has fraction boot camp."
This debate soon turned into the whole importance of math and science while I whole heartedly supported the "if you can't read, you can't get a job or function in society" campaign. Let's all sigh together.....SIGH!!!!
Reading is the most important thing you do all day long (that and breathing). I have always loved to read, and my mom's philosophy on books was "I don't care how many books you buy, as long as you read them all." This is why I had a frequent shopper's card to Waldenbooks at the age of 11. I read every Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume, Babysitter's Club book ever written. I know Randy values reading too because he modestly interjects every time we have this discussion that he taught all the kids how to read in kindergarten:)
After that comment, I think it's settled. We will be promoting reading through our nursery decor. Dr. Seuss is synonymous with great reading!!!! The solution is simple.
Now, dont' start rumors. I am NOT pregnant. I am ONLY planning! I like to plan folks....It's what I do!!! I even have a plan for the next Dr. Seuss book I buy. It's "Yertle the Turtle!"
What's your favorite Dr. Seuss book?

Monday Funday
Ahhh another Monday knocked off my count down. I count down everything. Four work days until the next holiday!!!!
So much to say I don't know where to start....
a) Well my Longhorns lost on Thursday night. My heart broke for Colt McCoy. Kudos to him for being a national witness though. It's very easy to give God the glory when things are going swell, but it takes genuine faith to give Him the glory when things go south. Hooray for you for being an example of His faithful love!
"I would have given everything I had to be out there with my team...I always give God the glory, I never question why things happen the way they do, God is in control of my life. I know if nothing else, I am standing on the rock."
- Colt McCoy
b) Speaking of the Longhorns, the men's basketball team is now ranked #1 (the first time in school history)!!!! Hook'em for everything!
c) It's the end of the six weeks this Friday.....this means I've dedicated 5 hours of my life to grading this past weekend....only four more sets of papers to go, times that by 57 students, well you do the math! i stink at numbers!
d) We had a fabulous weekend celebrating a very important family! Randy's past youth minister had a going away celebration and lunch this past Sunday. Brian is taking another job in the Tyler area. He served at Second Baptist in LaGrange for 11 years. He was a very influential person in Randy's life, and we wouldn't have missed saying good bye and thank you for the world. I got to know Brian and his wife Jennifer when Randy and I started dating. After high school, we attended church camp. Jennifer was my church camp momma! We will definitely miss both of them! A huge thank you for making a difference in our lives. You both helped mold Randy into the loving husband he is today.

Well off I go to the grading world and back to making fun of Randy watching this show Chuck.....All together now, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
What a weird show! They keep talking about this "intercept" thing. I thought that was a math term, or maybe that was intersect. Oh well who cares. You know I don't do math, but I do know the definition is NERD ALERT!!!!

You knew there would be a "Hook'em" post!!!
Friends and neighbors! Order your pizza, put on your Collegiate snuggies, and await the most brilliant game on earth!! In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, shame on you! My beloved longhorns are playing in the BCS National Championship game tomorrow! I'm so excited; I can hardly stand it!
What an honor it is just to make it to the big game!!!! Of course, I want to win! And I know no one not wearing burnt orange tomorrow wants to see us choke! Double shame on you!
Now I know everyone is sick of hearing how fabulous Alabama is/Mark Ingram this and that/Colt has alot to prove/yah dah yah dah! I remember hearing these same words not too long ago about the media's beloved USC. Oh wait, yes we won that game! Ahhhh what a fabulous senior moment. It was thrilling to boo ESPN's Mark May when he walked onto the field. Ahhh....what a great National Championship. I love hearing ESPN discuss how that was the greatest college football game EVER!!!! I thought I'd post a few of my favorite pictures from that game to celebrate AGAIN the outcome. Enjoy the pictures while I mourn not being in Pasadena:(

My novice blogging skills are shining through....I have no idea how to make these pictures bigger!
My favorite picture is of us standing in front of USC's stadium...only because of the crazy adventures to get there and the heckling we got while we were there. Renting a car and driving in California= nightmare. Randy wearing a burnt orange shirt everywhere we went including to the Coliseum (aka the ghetto LA)= bad decision
Hook'em Horns! I love my burnt orange regardless of the outcome. If you have no interest in the game, think of me at least. Not only because I'm a fan, but because my husband's blood pressure will be off the charts tomorrow night. Randy is the most dedicated and devoted fan I know. If he throws anything at our tv in frustration, he's toast!
p.s. does anyone know exactly what "Roll tide" means? I mean really. Shouldn't your mascot be an animal and not a wave?
p.p.s. this just in....rands informed me they do actually have an animal mascot. it's an elephant......who knew? why aren't they "roll elephant" then?

Today's Theme is EXHAUSTION!
Below you will see a self-portrait of what I looked like when the 4:05 dismissal bell rang today.....

I'm not kidding. And that's me lookin' good based on the kind of day I had. So today was my first day back to work. I know most of you are just gushing and oozing with empathy for me especially since I'm coming back from a glorious 14 day break...yes that's right, 2 weeks folks! But don't think these two weeks don't come with a punishment. The punishment began when my 6 a.m. alarm clock rang this morning.
To sum up my day in the fewest amount of words possible (I'm just pleased with myself I'm actually posting after an exhausting day like today) answer this riddle....
What do sixth graders receive for Christmas and are proud to show off when they return to school?
A box of hormones and a big stocking of bad attitudes!
Nighty night!

Introducing.....my new blog!
Oh my goodness! I am so excited to begin my blogging career. I have been very indecisive about whether or not I need to type out all my random thoughts. But one of my New Year's resolutions is to work on better expressing myself.....So without further ado, I introduce my first attempt at expression...
My dearest friend Leslie helped me set up my first blog log-in. There were so many decisions to be made. The layout, picture, about me section. It's facebook all over again. The title took the longest, all of five minutes. I didn't want to be cheesy with a "L alliteration." You could be reading "Welcome to the Lueders' Lounge" or "Livin' with the Lueders." How about "Loving Life Lueders' style?" I know, gag. So I thought a penny for your thoughts was cute and to the point.
(I also stole the blog topics from Leslie. She's a pro blogger.)
5 things I'm thankful for in 2009...
1) My faith in Christ's unwavering and persistent love continues to grow and grow and grow and grow. This past spring, I took a huge leap of faith and gave up a great/very safe job. I basically entered a very unstable job market and prayed that He would provide. I had no idea what that would look like. I was extremely nervous, but slowly I was putting more and more trust in Him. Not only did He provide, He exceeded every one of my expectations. How does He always do that? Because He is awesome! I could not be in a better situation, and I am thankful to serve a Lord who is so omnipotent and loving.
2) My best friend Rands.....

(I wanted to impress people with my novice blogging skills and post that first picture....It was daunting, but now I'm ready to post tons more pictures)
He is my rock. Life would be so boring without him. He always keeps me laughing and on my toes.
3) My family! Oh how I love them! We don't really take pictures....but they are great anyways!
4) My sweet Mopac! I had no idea that people could love animals as much as I love my little Mo! She makes every bad day better with all her kisses. This year she accomplished playing dead as a trick. The Barnum and Bailey's producers and us are currently negotiating a contract for her mad skills.

5) My fabulous girlfriends....I love them so much. Life would not be the same without our weekly chats, shopping trips, wreath making projects, book swaps, dinner parties, and Mesa Rosa lunches. You girls definitely make me smile!
5 things I want to improve on in 2010...
1)I need to develop a better/more consistent prayer schedule. A schedule where I am just still. We learned in Common Ground this fall that we need to be still and know that He is there. I asked the question, How do you guys be still? I need to work on freeing my mind and sitting in silence while I reflect on all the blessings He has given me.
2) Blogging.....I'm going to work really hard at posting at least once a week. I get really wrapped up in school and my daily house duties that I have little time left to do fun things. I also seem to hate the computer when I get home from work. After a day full of noise and emails, I just want to fall into a good book. So if it's March, and you're still reading this sole post, know that I failed on this particular goal. But I'm going to really try!
3) Being a better listener
4) Trying at least 2 new recipes a week! Randy will love this goal!
5) Organization! My closet is in desperate need of a make-over. The container store will know my Visa soon.
Cheers to a healthy and happy 2010! I'm pumped about the new adventure!
More blogging to come....see goal number 2 for verification
