Wonderful Weekend!

This weekend was amazing! It started on Thursday with Randy cooking!

That's right, the guy who doesn't even "know" how to make frozen pizza cooked me dinner. And not Ramen, which would have been delicious, don't get me wrong. He grilled steaks, made tator tots and beans! I've been working crazy late all week long, and he surprised me by playing husband of the year!

Friday night Randy and I cruised around town in my car. He cruised; I told him to slow down. Randy loves to drive my car. Why? Because he says it feels like he's driving a race car.

And if he tells me that race car is spelled the same backwards as it is forward one more time, I might scream!

Anyways, Saturday we went and watched a playoff basketball game. Randy's good friend from his hometown coaches a high school basketball team at a private school. We went and watched his team play a Lubbock school (man, that drive must have sucked). It was a tough battle, but we lost:( Oh well, they have to drive back to Lubbock. Boo-yah!

The highlight of the night was sharing my love of Matt's El Rancho with others. I'm all about sharing good things! Man, I love that place!

What did I love more than seeing old friends and eating great, no amazing, Mexican food?

Feeling young!

My friend and I went to the bathroom during a time out at the basketball game, and we had to walk past the cheering high school students. When we were walking by, one of them gave us a cat call.

He said, "Hey ladies, how ya'll doing?"

I almost turned to him and said, "I'm ten years older than you."

Gasp, it is true, they probably ranged between 16-18. I'm going to be 28 years old. Eek! I'm going to have my high school 10 year reunion soon!

but I also thought, "Yes! I still got it!"

Does this make me a cougar?

I'm way pumped about being a potential cougar prospect!

And I must have put on my young look last night because the bartender at Matt's even carded me! I love when that happens! Thank you kind sir for thinking I could have been born after 1990!

I ended the weekend with spending the day with one of my favorite people of all time! Jana and I went to see "Blue Man Group" at the beautiful Long Center. I am so blessed to live in such a beautiful city! It was gorgeous to exit the building and look out and see downtown Austin!

I love laughing with her! We go together like peanut butter and jelly! Seriously, you need a Jana in your life! It's good for the soul!

want to know how i'm old?

I am an old woman.

Randy always tells me that I wish my life away so much that he thinks sometimes I want to be 40. Ha! Shows what he knows! Just look at my ultra hip list of things that make me 27 daily.


-I made bran muffins tonight to take to the office meeting tomorrow. Sometimes you just gotta jazz those meetings up. Bran will bring jazz to the meetings that will undoubtedly mention the word budget, procedures, and TAKS!

-I can cross "pay bills" off my things to do list.

-My hormones hate me, and I hate them! Blood work papers will be ordered for sure! My thyroid is pretty ticked off right now. I can always tell when things aren't right. My thyroid loves being lazy. It feels like my friend has taken a week long vacation. He needs to get back at making me some thyroxine.

-I use the word "thyroxine" in my daily vocab.

-Tomorrow night we're having Salisbury steak for dinner. I'm even going to garnish it with fresh parsley.

-Varicose veins...thanks Mom! Those little buggers keep popping up. My skin is becoming translucent! I'm about to call that number on the billboard 1800-spider-vein.

-I watch the ten o'clock news nightly, and then I immediately head upstairs to bed. Nothing like a routine!

Speaking of routines...gotta shower, read, and do my Bible study homework. Maybe I'll treat myself to a half of a cream cheese kolache. Maybe? Who am I kidding? That will be a definite. And probably the whole thing. Halves of any food item are for old people. I'm not old!

Indifference

I love making lists, and after I made my things to do list today, I realized I haven't made a list for my blog lately.

here is my list of things I don't care about or just not interested in

1) skinny jeans (umm tights jeans make me feel fat all day, why would I buy them that way?)

2) Glee (I think they sing on this show. I'm not sure...)

3) TAKS manuals (too bad I can't add them to my shelfari as books read this year)

4) charging my Iphone (the game Snoods is a battery drainer for sure)

5) taking pictures (I don't even know where my camera is currently)

6) monitoring Mopac's diet (How do you tell her no to treats when she looks at you with those big brown eyes?)

7) monitoring my diet (ugh, I was doing so well, and then the flu and TAKS season snuck up on me to throw me off my game. This week I'm back on plan...I hope!)

8) complaining about all of Facebook's changes. This week's complaint is the new photo display. People! It doesn't matter if you think Mark Zuckerberg's new Facebook ideas suck. Watch "Social Network." He doesn't care what you think and neither do the people who check news feed.

9) chasing Friday (uggh when is spring break?)

10) ending this list on number 9. I have to write something next to no. 10, even though it stinks. Sorry folks, but thanks for reading number 10. It made me feel better!

Looking forward to...

-TAKS season being over! I'm so busy at work. It's unbelievable. It makes my day go so fast!

-Bible study tonight! Randy and I love, love, love our church. But we don't know anyone. Well I need to do something about it! I joined the woman's Bible study group for the spring. I'm excited to get to know some other church members and love on God some!

-Our date weekend! Randy started feeling better just yesterday. So Valentine's Day umm kinda sucked. Not his fault, he felt terrible! I'm glad he's feeling better, and to celebrate us and love, we are going to have some dates this weekend. He's planning it! So I'm pumped to spend some time with him without the smell of Lysol being involved.

-Fixing up the house! The house the guys built last summer sold! Construction on house no. 3 is coming up soon. We got the check this week, and we were at Lowe's that same night looking around. I'm excited about the renovations about to go underway! First up, fixing the broken blind in the dining room. You gotta start small with Rands:)

I will probably still buy these when we are completely 100% healthy. They are delicious!

Randy is so weak from all the coughing he's been doing. He looks terrible! My poor sugar. We aren't even celebrating Valentine's Day this year. We'll go to dinner when we are back to normal. I did make him some funfetti cupcakes though:)

Will he eat any? Probably not. He hasn't eaten much. He's gotten so thin.

Being sick sucks! I'm at about 90 percent. Randy is about 50 percent. This flu really kicked both our butts. For the last two weeks, our house has been infected. I can't imagine how things would have went to crap if we both were down at the same time. We definitely have a partnership because I'm so exhausted playing nurse, chef, house cleaner, etc. I haven't gotten mail, and I forgot to take trash out this week. These are Randy's jobs. To be honest, I don't even know when the trash is picked up. I'll continue to play ignorant in this because I don't want this to become my job.

I'm ready for things to go back to normal!

Surviving

I haven't posted in a while because I've been too busy playing nurse. My sweet Randy got the flu:(

Seriously?

What else is going to go wrong?

He must have gotten the exact strand of the flu that I had. He's been coughing, shivering, and hacking away over here. I think he's almost done. He started running fever on Tuesday night, and I remember feeling better that weekend after. Hopefully that'll be true for him as well.

Surrender Bay

This book is a must read! It's an allegory about God's undying love for us. It's told as a love story between a man and a woman. The woman in the story is constantly running from things in life. She doesn't even know which direction she's headed, but she's moving. She does some stupid things along the way, and she's shocked to find that Landon (the male character in the book) is still there waiting for her. She's shocked to find that he loves her no matter what stupid thing she says or does. That love is not earned. That love is a gift!

This book really touched me. It was very subtle, and you wouldn't even pick up on the fact that she's a Christian author. I love books like this because you can apply it to your life without being told how to. It's a book that keeps you thinking long after you finished it. God's always there for us, and His love has no limits.

I'm on book 2 in the series, and I can't wait.

I love how God always knows what you need to hear whether it's a song on the radio or a random book you pick up from the library.

Wheelin' and Dealin'

Today was a fun day!

My brand new car is in our garage, and she is smiling!

She loves her new home!

Randy was amazing today! If I wasn't married to him, I think I'd be scared of him. He's a pro at bargaining and negotiating. He doesn't back down, and his confidence makes me squirm a little.

If he ever wants a career change, I'm going to push for law school. He'd be an amazing attorney!

Why?

One word...ruthless

Before we went into the dealership he turned to me with the game plan.

"Now when we get in there, you follow my lead. If I get up and say we're leaving, you get up too. We are in the power seats. Don't forget that."

I was ready for a "Ready? Break!" moment.

I should have put on some black marks under my eyes.

Well he definitely put that Business Foundations certificate to work today. I looked on in awe and complete nervousness. If I was buying the car without him present, I would have just signed on the line. I hate confrontation. Randy loves it!

Poor salesguy: "We want your business, and we'll do whatever we can to get your business."
Randy: "Well that's obviously a lie. Because if that was true you give me the car at the price I asked for."
Salesguy: "Sir I'm a straight shooter. I'm not going to lie to you."
Randy: insert laugh here

Can you believe he laughed? Oh my goodness, so embarrassed...I wanted the floor to eat me up!

Then he tried to talk numbers...

Umm not a good idea with Randy.

I was waiting for him to pull out his Excel spread sheet print outs.

Salesguy: "So as you can see that's 300 dollars right there."
Randy: "Actually, it's 199 dollars."
Salesguy: "Um, stall, ugh, umm, yah I guess you're right. It is 200 dollars."
Randy: "No again, it's 199 dollars."


Umm did I mention he's really good at math?

When it was all over with, Rands had the biggest grin on his face.

R: "Wasn't that fun?"
P: "Yah, only when I shook his hand sealing the deal."

What does he do?

Well it's day three of me camped out on the couch with my faithful box of Kleenex's. I feel like I've been hit by a truck. No fever though!!!

It's nice school was canceled today. What a great week to get the flu. I've been home three days, but only one counts as a personal/sick day.

Randy got to stay home this morning too! The roads were treacherous. I would know because I was up at 5 am listening to my faithful KXAN. Thanks news team!

He was working at home, and I was glad I got a glimpse into his profession.

To be honest, I have no idea what Randy does at work.

I mean I know his trade. But when people ask me about it, I just say, "He's a civil engineer."

Curious or nerdy people always want to know more..."What type of engineering does he do?"

Umm...civil kind??

This is where I speak really really fast and use big words. People just tend to nod when I do this. Thus stopping the interrogation. Thank you God for giving me a healthy vocabulary.

But today, I know a little more by eavesdropping on his business call.

"Hi, I'm calling from Austin, Texas, and I was hoping to talk to so and so about sewage hydraulic systems."


Umm gross!

Who would have thought Randy deals with poop! Well not actual poop. But I never really thought about it. Where does all the world's poop actually go? Somebody has to design something hydraulicy to move that stuff away from ending up in your back yard.

And that somebody is Randy!

I'm sure when/if he reads this post, he'll take thirty minutes to explain how wrong I am in my assessment of his work duties. But sewer to me means poop!

Once again, thank a civil engineer today. They design roads, water pipes, bridges, and sewage pipes.

Who knew I had one of those right under my nose?

Oh...I got to get out of this house!

things i need to get off my chest...

I am so stir crazy!!!! Oh my goodness. I can't sit in this house for another day. I've watched Food Network all day. It's just like summer. Watch Food Network and blog multiple times a day to alleviate my boredom.

Maybe I should write a book. Writing seems to help.

So I have to write these little factoids down...

1) The Neelys' on "Downhome with the Neely's" need to simmer down. I get you are all in love. But so are Randy and I. Yet he doesn't molest me with kitchen spatulas. I just saw that man rub a spatula on Geena's arm. Gross! Get a room! Can we just see you whip up a bbq pork dish? We don't need all the cooing and rubbing. It's kinda gross!

2) Domino's Pizza is having a 5 dollar pizza special. We might need to hit that up later. The beer dish still stinks. I bet Rachel Ray doesn't eat pizza anymore. Man they show her old show and her new show back to back after lunch. She has lost some weight. You go Rach!

3) I have excellent credit! Thank you very much! We went to the bank on Tuesday to get a loan for my car. The whole time we're sitting there Randy keeps saying, "Can we check her credit first?"

Umm why?

"And if we need to I can just add her name to my account."

Umm why?

P: Randy why would we do that?
R: Well you might have bad credit. We'll just see what they say first. You've never applied for anything. We don't know what will come up.

But wait I pay my bills! Oh no, I'm that financial risk they talk about. My hands started sweating. Why did I feel like the cops were about to come out?

Enter bank woman: "You actually have excellent credit ma'm. You qualify for our lowest interest rate far surpassing the minimum credit score required for that rate.

Well hot dog!

Look at that Randy! Why did I even doubt my bill paying skills? I'm a bill paying fool!

4) cough drops taste like candy...especially the strawberry flavor!

5) I'm already thinking about what I'm going to put on my next blog post.

6) please cancel school tomorrow!

7) Mopac looks so precious in her dog sweaters!

8) This jar of Valentine's peanut M and M's are downright dangerous.

9) I think I might pay 6 dollars to rent "The Social Network" from our cable company. That's how cold it is outside!

Smelly!

So I'm trying this new recipe for dinner. I'm not sure how I pulled this one off. But I managed to throw some stuff in the slow cooker, and I think we'll have dinner. I washed my hands about a dozen times throughout the whole process. It also took me about 10 minutes to chop one onion. It usually takes me about a minute or two, but this dinner prep had many breaks.

I know, I know. I should be resting. But I tend to push myself. I don't like being sick. I don't like being cooped up here ALL DAY long! I wanted to go back to work today, but Randy wouldn't let me. Last night before bed I was running a 101 temperature, so I let him win that one. My coworkers are probably grateful as well! I'm hoping to go tomorrow. Randy told me absolutely not. We'll see, so far no fever today! Maybe they'll just cancel school with the inclement weather.

So this dinner is a new recipe for Belgium stew. I thought this one would work because it had very little prep and then viola, slow cooker do your thing.

The problem is, it doesn't smell good. Usually slow cooker meals fill your house with this amazing aromatic scent. Well, this one smells like a tavern. For the record, I hate beer. Like absolutely HATE beer. This recipe called for one bottle of dark beer. I thought, well we'll try it. The beer could give the meat a great flavor. Maybe I should like the flavor of something before I pour it all over my beautiful stew meat.

You know why I don't drink beer? Besides the fact it's nasty. It's expensive. I bought one bottle at HEB, and it cost 3 bucks! IBC root beer in those fabulous bottles don't even cost that much!

I had no idea what I was buying! There were cheaper single bottles but I couldn't tell what color the beer was because the bottles were so dark. Hello!!! Help out the non beer drinkers who just want a tasty, flavorful dinner with some clear bottles. I couldn't tell what the color of the brewskies were! Hence why I had to buy the 3 dollar beer because it had the words "Dark beer" on the bottle!

Dinner tonight could be interesting! I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

Things I want...

A vehicle...still waiting on insurance to mail my check! There located in Dallas. Another reason I love this hateful storm.

Warm weather...that wind makes me want to cuss.

To feel better...flu go away! I have too much stuff to do at work to sit at home with these chills and aches. I hate you flu!

To keep losing weight...6 pounds down! The flu is helping me out with this as well.

To find the perfect buttery yellow paint color to paint our spare bedroom. I have Benjamin Moore paint cards everywhere!

A kindle!

Randy to come home, so he can play nurse. This is a rarity...I'm not a sit on the couch kinda person. I've already made a things to do list. Will any of it get done? Doubt it. I'm lucky to make it to the bathroom without falling over. But hey I feel better knowing what needs to be done. Hurry up body. I need to get back at it!

For God to keep hugging me. I can feel Him each and every day!
